His Eminence Bishop Porphyrios of Neapolis was born on April 16, 1966 in the village of Pera Oreinis in the Nicosia district. Following his studies at the National Martyr Kyprianos Lyceum in Strovolos in 1984, he fulfilled his military obligations with the National Guard from which he was discharged in September 1986. He then studied at the School of Archaeology of the University of Athensâ€™ School of Philosophy. Upon graduation in 1990 he continued his studies at the School of Theology of the University of Thessaloniki, from where he graduated in 1994.
He returned to Cyprus and taught at the Apostle Barnabas Seminary. In September 1995 he joined the brotherhood of the Holy Monastery of the Virgin Mary (Panayia) of Machairas.
On August 15, 1998, he was ordained as a Deacon by His Grace Bishop Vasileios of Constantia. In February 1999, following the election of Abbot Athanasios of Machairas Monastery as Bishop of Limassol, he joined him in the Holy Bishopric of Limassol. In April 1999 he was ordained as a Priest by His Grace Bishop Athanasios of Limassol; in March 2000 he became an Archimandrite and in December 2001 was made a Confessor by the same Bishop.
During his term at the Holy Bishopric of Limassol, he officiated at services in the churches of Pano Platres, Kato Amiantos and the parish of Agios Nectarios, Limassol in addition to carrying out his duties as confessor in High Schools and Lyceums in Limassol.
He has also served as:
- Deputy Chairman of the Solomon Panayides Foundation during the period 2000-2006.
- Founder member and President of the Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education from 2004-2007.
- Head of the Office for Religious Monuments and Relics of the Holy Bishopric of Limassol.
On October 5, 2007, during an extraordinary meeting of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus, on the recommendation by His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos, he was selected to be his assistant and given the title Bishop of Neapolis. His ordination as Bishop took place on October 27, 2007.
Name day: 2 December (after the official canonization of Saint Elder Porfyrios Kafsokalyvitis, the 27th November 2013 by the Ecumenical Patriarchate).
