Under the presidency of his Excellency Mr. Jerzy Buzek, president of the European parliament took place on the afternoon of the 30th of May 2011 at the European Parliament, a seminar under the theme: The Implementation of Article 17 of the Lisbon Treaty and the Dialogue among European Institutions Churches and Philosophical Organizations. The Church of Cyprus was represented by his Grace bishop Porfyrios of Neapolis and the theologian Mr. Georgios Ioannou.
The seminar begun with the introductory speech of the European Parliament s President Mr. Jerzy Buzek. The speakers of the seminar were Mr. Laszlo Tokes (one of the European Parliament vice-presidents) as well as representatives of the Christian Churches (one Orthodox, one Catholic and one Protestant), of the Hebrew and the Islamic religion.
The president of the European parliament and the rest of the speakers analyzed their points of views for the implementation as well as the context of a profound dialogue between the European Institutions and the Churches, as this is foreseen in article 17 of the Lisbon treaty. Among others the president of the European Parliament stressed that the aid of the religious leaders is essential for the establishment of a better world. Furthermore, he imposed various questions for the evolution of the dialogue between Churches and the Philosophical Organizations.
With the end of the speeches a productive dialogue followed between the participants of the seminar.
