The works of the second meeting of the Central Committee of the Conference of European Churches (CEC) took place in Brussels between 2-5 June. During the meetings discussed further transitional arrangements for the completion of the consolidation of Church and Society Commission (CSC) and CEC next December. The members of the Committee received and approved the annual report of the Church and Society Commission for the 2013. A long discussion was realised on the legal aspects of consolidation and the appropriate decisions were taken. It was scheduled an event in Leuven (Belgium) on 3 December, where will mark the beginning of the new CEC.
The Central Committee welcomed the Coordinator and the General Secretary of the Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME). The members of the CEC discussed with them the process of negotiations that is ongoing between the two organizations. It was decided the intensification of negotiations in order to complete their unification as soon as possible. It was underlined the vital work carried out by the CCME for the migrants and asylum seekers in Europe.
The CEC approved the annual financial report for the year 2013, studied the question of financial resources of CEC and completed the configuration of the standing orders of the Central Committee in accordance with the decision of the General Assembly held in Budapest last July.
The CEC also decided the events of this year for the commemoration of the beginning of the First World War and a conference in memory of the victims of the Armenian genocide in 2015.
The Central Committee calls in prayer the churches and organizations in partnership members of CEC for the suffering people of Ukraine. The third meeting of the Central Committee will be held in Leuven (Belgium), between 2 to 6 December.
