The Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II had on the 13th of April 2010 a meeting with the President of the EPP Group of the European Parliament Mr. Joseph Daul in the line of his visit in Brussels for his attendance to the Seminar, organized by the Representation of the Church of Cyprus to the European Union in cooperation with the Church and Society Commission of the Conference of European Churches and Dr. Eleni Theocharous MEP on the Theme: “ Religious Freedom and Holy Sites in the Republic of Cyprus”.
His Beatitude informed Mr. Daul for the constant pillage and distraction of our religious heritage to the occupied areas by the army and the sedlers from Turkey as well as the preservation of the religious freedom of the enclaved Greek-Cypriots.H.B. thanked Mr. Daul for the constant and determined support of his political party to the efforts for a viable solution of the Cyprus problem. The Archbishop stressed that in Cyprus we never had religious problems between the greek Cypriots and the Turkish cypriots and that we had and expect to have a peaceful coexistence and an excellent collaboration which is the aim of Church too.
Mr. Daul expressed the EPP Group undivided and earnest support to the Church of Cyprus for the protection of religious freedom to the occupied areas and the rescue of the cultural and religious heritage which is European and World-wide.
He mentioned that he visits Cyprus in the past, has an intimate knowledge of the Cypriot problem and wished a quick abolition of the “Green line” and the solution of the Cypriot Problem.
