The icon of the Presentation of Christ which was stolen, after the Turkish invasion, probably from the occupied monastery of St. Panteleimon in Myrtou will be repatriated soon in Cyprus. The icon was identified by the Representation of the Church of Cyprus in Brussels to be auctioned in the auctioneer firm Kaupp in Sulzburg, Germany, long before it was publicized on a daily Cypriot newspaper, on October 3rd. The Church of Cyprus quietly and discreetly, with substantial support by Cypriot sponsors, successfully managed to claim and recover the above icon, on Saturday, October 5th.

The icon was painted in 1787 and is credited to painter Leontios of the hagiography school of the monastery of St. Irakleidios (Politico). The dedicatory inscription at the bottom of the icon reads: "Our Lady, remember thy servants, Eleftherios Christina and their parents and their children (1787 )."

The icon has been already received by the Representative of the Church of Cyprus to the European Institutions, Bishop Porfyrios of Neapolis. In December it will be repatriated and will be delivered to Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Kyrenia in whose jurisdiction the monastery of St. Panteleimon belongs.
